Tipton Town 2 - 2 Telford Town
A game we should have won, and some questionable decisions to boot ends in a draw
This was always going to be a fiery game and it was apparent from the get go, but a goal in the 10th minute from a combination of a long throw and headers allowed Callum Bennett to score our first.
Continued pressure from Telford finally pays off when after a long ball into the box eventually lands at Andy Nicols feet and he puts the ball away on the 22nd minute.
After the break Tipton's desire paid off as a blocked shot was deemed handball and a penalty given, up stepped Jamie Holder who hit it down the middle.
In the 90th minute Josh Wycherley was given a straight red for a nudge in the back, and for a while chaos reigned as both teams started screaming and shouting and in the midst of it, the gaffer received a red card.
The free kick from outside of the box by Jake Fairhurst was to be applauded, but the way the free kick came about is questionable and left a sour taste in the mouth, made even worse by the ref calling time straight after the goal. Following the game Telford Town launched an appeal against Wycherley’s red card which was unanimously agreed with by the FA and the card rescinded.
An unfair result for our squad given the circumstances, and questions to be asked of the officiating.
